Band Program Fees

Music is an expensive activity. At Key Music Australia, we work very hard to make the Band Program as accessible as possible for as many families as we can. There are a number of fees associated with joining the band program, and these vary by school. Every Band Student will be charged band fees from both Key Music Australia and your school’s Band Committee.

Key Music Australia Fees include:

  1. Annual Band Fee – this covers your participation in the Band Program, access to music, your weekly Band Rehearsals and the provision of a Conductor at performances across the year. This annual fee is charged in 4x equal Term payments, invoiced at the start of each term by Key Music Australia. The Annual Band Fee applicable for your school can be found by clicking on your school’s name below.
  1. Tuition Costs – weekly music lessons are invoiced at the start of each term by Key Music Australia. The exact number of lessons in the Term can vary (especially in Term 1), but most Terms will have have 10 weekly lessons.
    • Group Lessons: Maximum 6 Students in lesson cost $25.00 inc GST per 30min lesson
    • Private Lessons: 1 Student in lesson cost $41.00 inc GST per 30min lesson (Note: not applicable for Training Band students)

Band Committee Fees include:

  1. Instrument Hire – if you have selected to hire your instrument from the Band Committee, this fee covers the cost of hiring the instrument, and having it cleaned & serviced at the end of the year. Instrument hire is invoiced by your school’s Band Committee, and may be a term based, bi annual, or annual fee depending on your school. The approximate Instrument Hire Fee applicable for your school can be found by clicking on your school’s name below.
  1. Band Camp / Workshop – each school holds a camp or workshop towards the middle of the year. For some schools this workshop is held in school hours, but most schools hold a 2 night camp held over the weekend at CRU Galston. Band Camps / Workshops offer students extended tutorial time for their instrument, as well as lots of rehearsal time as a group. We always notice a huge improvement in our Bands after their Band Camp / Workshop, and students gain so much knowledge in a short amount of time. The approximate Band Camp / Workshop Fee applicable for your school can be found by clicking on your school’s name below.

Other costs

  • Aside from the main Band Fees, families should also allow for some small incidental costs throughout the year depending on which instrument their child plays, e.g. woodwind instruments require reeds, brass instruments require valve oil etc. Students will also require a music stand to be able to practice at home.
  • If you are providing your own instrument (i.e. not hiring from the Band Committee) you must have you instrument serviced (we recommend annually).
  • Any instrument (hired or not) that is damaged, will also incur repair costs. If you are hiring from the Band Committee, please refer to your specific school’s policy regarding repairs and damage.
