Child Safe Policy

Title
The policy is called Key Music Australia’s Child Safe Policy.

Purpose
We want children and young people who participate in our programs to have a safe and happy experience. We support and respect our children, young people, their families, and our staff. This policy will help us to continue being a Child Safe Organisation for the future.

Support Kids Participation:
Key Music Australia supports the active participation of kids in our organisation. We listen to kids’ views, respect what they say and endaveour to involve them when we make decisions, especially about matters that will directly affect them.

Scope & Audience
Key Music Australia’s Child Safe Policy applies to all staff members and contractors. This policy applies in all school environments, on-site at schools, and off school grounds (e.g. camps and concerts). This policy applies to all activities that involve children (eg. Music Lessons, Band Rehearsals, Performances etc) both in-person and online.

Responsibilities
The Key Music Australia Managing Director is the Child Safety Officer

Recruitment
1. Statement – Key Music Australia will maintain a rigorous and consistent recruitment, screening and selection process.
2. Practice – We will achieve this standard through the use of interviews, references and the Working With Children Check.

Legislation
– Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012
– Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998

Dealing with Complaints
1. All concerns or complaints are to be directed to the Key Music Australia Managing Director via the Key Music Australia Office
2. The Key Music Australia Managing Director (as the Child Safety Officer) will manage all complaints.

Communication
1. We will communicate regularly with staff.
2. Our policy will be discussed during induction sessions for all new staff.
3. Kids and parents joining our program/s will have access to our Child Safe Policy, Code of Conduct, and Dealing with Complaints process via our website.

Review
The policy and guidelines will be reviewed annually by Key Music Australia’s management team and where possible will incorporate comments and suggestions from children and young people, parents, and staff.
